Yes, YES, I know it’s a manufactured event designed to sell more stuff — including selling some people access to satisfaction that they are in happy romances (or at least the outward appearance of a happy romance).

But I have loved Valentine’s Day my whole life, whether I’m in a romance or not!

Manufactured smugness or manufactured yearning for greener grass aside — to ME, Valentine’s Day is about

RED AND PINK (the best color combination EVER).

It’s about frothy, silly, sparkly joy.
It’s about LOVE!

So what’s not to love!?

No one needs to define what that love is! WE get to define it! Let’s all take BACK Valentine’s Day!

If you have a lover, give them the gift of a gift or your complete attention! If you have a mother, brother, father-in-law, parakeet, neighbor, BFF, even a best friend TREE that makes your day just a little bit better — share your love and appreciation with THEM! They deserve to know that they make your life fuller, richer, more grounded in sweetness and tenderness. Tell them! Show them! Valentine’s Day the HECK out of them!

How do you Valentine’s Day a tree? Do what I do every morning when I open the blinds in my office and see my best friend willow tree. ‘You are SO beautiful,’ I tell her. ‘Thank you for making this view so beautiful.
